Our smartphones can be a source of great distractions. For me, this is confirmed by the screen time breakdown that tells me I pick up my phone about 144 times a day (based on a three-week average), what apps I spend the most time on and where my notifications come from.
Many of us also use our devices at work, but I’m sure I’m not the only one whose work-related use has quickly become an impromptu scrolling session on Instagram or Reddit. Sorry!
If you want to avoid wasting time and stay focused, there are some easy ways to avoid temptation. For example, put the phone in grayscale mode so that it is less attractive to look at. Silence your phone or store it in a drawer so you can’t see it. However, there is a more complicated way: using focus mode.
Focus modes can silence a range of notifications and filter what is and isn’t done during specific times of the day. If you’re wondering, you can also create an account to silence work emails and calls over the weekend or if you’re on vacation.
