It doesn’t matter where you are. A strange scene occurred in the Calera neighborhood in the early morning hours today. Police say a naked man was wandering through a neighborhood on foot, damaging homes and cars. WVTM 13 LISA CRANE is present and local to the CAMDEN COVE community. now. Lisa. This seems unbelievable. Yes, you know, this actually happens. I spoke to a lot of residents here today, and many of them say they are still in shock that something like this could happen in their quiet neighborhood. Now, police tell us a resident was passing by. Police tell us the suspect, Caleb Sims, actually drove by and hit a few dozen cars and mailboxes. You can see one of the damaged vehicles behind me here. This SUV has a smashed back window. Camden Bay is normally a quiet area, but not at around 2:30am on Friday. One of our neighbors knocked on our door at about 3:00 in the morning and said there were some naked guys out here hitting cars, you know, punching holes and everything. We came through, and yes, sure, two cars in Sam’s driveway were damaged. Police say Caleb Sims is responsible after his arrest. He had to go to the hospital because of his injuries. They said he was covered in blood, bleeding everywhere. You can see the blood here from his arm I think. Across the street. Brent Franklin was cleaning some of Sims’ blood from his mailbox. He says it was a scary situation. It’s definitely not something you want your kids and family to deal with, however. Usually, we don’t do that. This is, like I said, a really quiet neighborhood. We usually don’t encounter this kind of problem. Calera Police say they received dozens of calls from residents, which helped them quickly locate the suspect. The chief believes Sims was using drugs and says he refused the officer’s commands and quickly walked toward the officer, who then used a stun gun on Sims and arrested him. The president says the situation could have easily ended in tragedy. It is amazing to me that this person has never faced harm to a citizen, or been harmed by a citizen and the situation. I watched the video this morning from the car camera and from the officer’s body camera and the officer uses an amazing restraint and I think that would have been justified had the officer not chosen to go for the taser. He described Chief Sims as a man of very large height and weight. Someone who would be very scary if he came to you. SIMS has now been charged with public intoxication, lewdness and disorderly conduct, and we understand that more charges will likely be added when they get the total figure for the dollar amount of all damages.
