The fire broke out inside the Erie Basin Auto Pound on Columbia Street in Red Hook around 12:45 p.m.

Firefighting teams are still working today, Wednesday, to completely extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
On December 13, 2022, a fire broke out at an NYPD warehouse in the same area, destroying stored clothing and other items being tested for DNA evidence. Police said the fire was so intense that part of the warehouse collapsed.
The impound area is also used to store illegal dirt bikes, e-bikes and scooters that are confiscated from the street, officials said.
The cause of the fire, which occurred on Wednesday, is under investigation.
