Apple’s AirTag 2 will launch in 2025 with a better chip and privacy improvements: Mark Gurman

Apple’s AirTag 2 has been rumored for a while now. While awaiting official confirmation from Apple, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that the company is preparing to launch its second-generation smart tracker next year. It would feature an updated design and a new wireless chip. Apple is expected to make some privacy improvements in its next AirTag. The company launched the AirTag in April 2021. The device, which has sparked privacy concerns, has not received any hardware updates since then.

Apple AirTag 2 coming in 2025

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in this weekly Power On newsletterclaimed that Apple is preparing to launch the AirTag 2 around “the middle of next year.” The new device, named B589, is said to have “advanced manufacturing testing” and the iPhone maker is preparing to bring it to market.

The AirTag 2 would likely sport a similar design to the current model, but offer better range and an improved built-in wireless chip. The current model has an ultra-wideband (U1) chip and the second generation model is expected to use a U2 chip with improved connectivity,

Gurman added that Apple will make some privacy improvements to the next-generation AirTag, including making it more difficult for someone to remove the tracker’s speaker. The first-generation AirTag has faced privacy issues since its launch and has been misused for harassment. Apple’s decision to adopt privacy-focused changes for AirTag 2 will likely address these concerns. “Apple is facing lawsuits over the device, and it’s in everyone’s best interest to make the new model more tamper-proof,” Gurman said in his newsletter.

Apple is also reportedly launching a new smart home display alongside the next-generation AirTag next year. The company is also expected to release updated versions of the iPad Air, entry-level iPad, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, Mac Studio, and iPhone SE in 2025. Apple is also expected to refresh the iPhone, Apple Watch and MacBook Pro range. year.

The first generation AirTag was released in April 2021 at a price of Rs. 9,999. 3,190 for a single piece and Rs. 10,999 for a pack of four. It has an IP67 rated construction and a built-in speaker.
