Exact weather: Temperatures are heading colder

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Record high temperatures were set across the region Thursday with temperatures in Lynchburg, Danville and Blacksburg 1 to 3 degrees higher than previous records.

A cold front will move south of the area overnight into Friday, which will allow cold air to begin filtering into the area, even as sunshine returns.

Temperatures on Friday will start out in the 50s with afternoon highs mainly in the 70s.

Even with temperatures dropping by a few degrees, two record highs could be set. Right now, projections have Lynchburg and Danville tying previous records and Roanoke by two scores.

Temperatures will drop further this weekend with highs in the 50s and 60s. Temperatures will warm up a bit next week with highs in the 60s and 70s through Wednesday. Another cold front will arrive on Thursday, bringing another chance of rain and another drop in temperatures.

Through Wednesday of next week, most of the region can expect to see up to a half-inch of rain with a slight increase in counties bordering West Virginia.
