The iOS 18.2 update for iPhone was recently released to public beta testers, weeks after it was rolled out to developers. The update is expected to be released to the public in December, expanding on Apple Intelligence features introduced in previous updates. A new report suggests that it could add an additional feature that is not available in public and developer beta updates. With iOS 18.2, the iPhone could benefit from another feature that Android phones have had for years.
Charging times on iPhone with iOS 18.2
According to a 9to5Mac reportcode references were discovered in the latest iOS 18.2 beta update for a framework called “BatteryIntelligence”. This framework apparently allows the iPhone’s system to calculate the estimated time remaining to complete charging or reach a specific level. It is said to work on the same principle as the existing feature in macOS that displays the remaining charge time in the battery menu on MacBooks.
A similar feature has been present on Android devices for a long time and may soon be available on iOS as well.
However, the feature is not yet active, even in the iOS 18.2 Developer Beta 1 update released last month. The report suggests that it could be introduced in the stable version of iOS 18.2 or as part of other future updates.
With iOS 18, Apple introduced several new battery-related features. This includes the ability to limit the charge to 80, 85, 90 or 95 percent. The Cupertino-based tech giant claims that keeping the charge limit below 100% helps extend its lifespan over time. Additionally, it can now notify the user if the iPhone is being charged with a “slow” charger. This option appears in the battery section of iPhone settings and the green charge level changes to orange where usage is displayed.
