Kamala Harris and Donald Trump tied in remote Dixville Notch, which could be bad news for the Democratic presidential nominee, if previous results are any indication.
But it wasn’t all good news for Trump, as one of the six electors spoke out against the Republican candidate.
The New Hampshire border community between the United States and Canada opened and closed polls after midnight, a tradition dating back to the 1960s. In the final result, Harris and Trump each received three votes.
The city does not historically represent how New Hampshire will vote, or who will ultimately hold the White House. But in the last election, Democrats decisively won Dixville Notch, meaning Harris’ tie represents a sharp break from recent results.
The sample size was six people, four Republicans and two independents. But one Republican broke with Harris. Speaking before the vote, the registered Republican explained why he disagreed with Trump.

Dixville Notch residents also cast ballots for New Hampshire governor, with five votes going to Republican candidate Kelly Ayotte and one vote going to Democrat Joyce Craig.
By tradition, Dixville Notch is the first to announce its election results, and has held that honor since 1960. According to the Associated Press, the city’s early voting tradition was introduced to accommodate railroad workers who did not have time to vote in the election. Normal work day.
The community operates under a state law that allows it to declare an election over if all registered voters have cast ballots. Polling stations open their doors immediately after midnight on Election Day, and shortly after, the results are counted and announced publicly.
In the rest of the state, polls appear to agree that Harris will win New Hampshire, which has four electoral college votes.
Using polling, economic and demographic data, FiveThirtyEight says Harris won New Hampshire 88 times out of 100 in the election simulation.
But the margin in New Hampshire has narrowed between Harris and Trump in recent days. RealClearPolling, which previously said it “leans Democratic,” now considers it “a tossup.”
The last Republican to win New Hampshire was George W. Bush in 2000, defeating Al Gore 48.1 percent to 46.8 percent.
