Your support helps us tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to big tech, The Independent is on the ground as the story unfolds. Whether it’s investigating the finances of Elon Musk’s pro-Trump political action committee or producing our latest documentary The Word, which highlights American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to analyze the facts from the reporter.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to continue sending journalists to talk to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the political spectrum. Unlike many other high-quality news outlets, we choose not to exclude Americans from our reporting and analysis through a paywall. We believe that quality journalism should be available to everyone, and paid for by those who can afford it.

Katy Perry has made a last-minute endorsement of Kamala Harris, appearing at a rally for the Democratic nominee in Pittsburgh on the eve of the 2024 US election.
The pop singer was among the celebrities who joined Harris in her recent marches, along with Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey, Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera.
At the Pittsburgh rally, Perry performed her songs “Dark Horse” and “Part of Me,” and also gave a speech in which she said that she had known Harris since before she became a senator.
“I have always known her to fight for the most vulnerable, speak up for the voiceless, and protect our rights as women to make decisions about our bodies,” she said.
“Yes, go find out! I know it will protect my daughter’s future, your children’s future, and our family’s future. So, Pittsburgh, let’s make Kamala Harris the next president of the United States.”
Perry posted a video on Instagram of herself and Harris urging her 205 million followers to vote.
Harris has received plenty of endorsements from pop and rock royalty over the past few months, including Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.
Swift announced her support for Harris following the presidential debate last September, telling her 283 million followers that Harris is “fighting for rights and issues that I believe need a warrior to defend them.”
She described Harris as a “talented and consistent leader” who will lead “with calm, not chaos.”
“Just like Kamala Harris, I was also the underdog,” rapper Cardi B told the crowd during a special appearance at a rally in Milwaukee.
